01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

For a taste of several Japanese Black Wagyu cuts in one sitting, a mixed platter is a good place to start at Kiraku-en. The Kiraku-en Platter includes premium salted beef tongue, skirt steak, rib, flap meat and shin-shin, among other cuts, and starts at around 250g. The Friend Platter, around 300g, combines rib, vertical-cut rib, flap meat, shin-shin and chuck flap. The Family Platter starts at around 450g and offers a broader selection, including premium salted beef tongue, skirt steak, rump cap and chuck flap. The selection may change, so check which cuts are included on the day.

The Stamina Trio Platter is an easy choice if you are unsure what to order: it combines short rib, loin and skirt steak, starting at around 300g. The Premium Trio Platter, with less common cuts such as zabuton, sirloin and geta kalbi, suits diners looking to try something more special. Cuts can also be ordered individually. The menu describes rump cap as tender with moderate marbling, rump as finely textured lean meat, and zabuton as marbled. Whether you prefer richer cuts or a mix that includes leaner meat, there is room to find your own balance.

One family visit described by a diner included the Family Platter with an extra order of beef tongue, as well as kimchi, edamame and a large serving of rice. The platter already included beef tongue, the diner noted; it is an example of how to build a meal around a selection and add a favourite dish or two. Between rounds of yakiniku, try a namul or kimchi assortment. To finish, there is stone-grilled bibimbap, or cold noodles served with a soup made by simmering vegetables, fruit and beef.

The restaurant has both table seating and private rooms, and welcomes reservations. Booking is recommended for dinner.
